Press release from Richland County School District Two: June 6, 2022 The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced two seniors in Richland Two are among over 2,600 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Evan A. Cox of Blythewood High School and Scott B. Dillon of Spring Valley High School will receive between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at Clemson University, the institution financing their scholarships. Cox's probable career field is Computer Science. Dillon's probable career field is Civil Engineering. Clemson University officials selected Cox and Dillon from among the Finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. Sixty-three seniors in South Carolina are receiving college-sponsored scholarships from various schools. An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2022 competition to about 4,000. College-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners are a part of the distinguished group of about 7,500 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth nearly $28 million. Earlier this spring, NMSC announced winners of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards and National Merit $2500 Scholarships. This year, 155 higher education institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarship awards through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sponsor colleges and universities include 82 private and 73 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
