WHEATON, IL — DuPage County election judges will see a sizable pay increase during the upcoming 2022 Primary Election. DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek announced Wednesday that pay for election judges will increase from $130 to $250. "This pay increase is long overdue," Kaczmarek said in a news release. Kaczmarek added, "It was necessary years before the ongoing pandemic and labor shortage. Our election judges were requesting a raise even back in 2005 when I was an election watchdog. I'm pleased that election judges will finally receive the salary they deserve." On average the pay for election judges in DuPage County will increase from around $8 hourly to more than $15 hourly. For Election Day, judges typically spend about 15 hours setting up and managing polling places. Election judges in DuPage County were given an emergency pay increase and supplement in 2020 due to coronavirus. This recent increase in pay is the first time the base pay for election judges has gone up in DuPage County "in decades," officials said. The general primary election is slated for June 28 in Illinois. Click the link to learn how to become an election judge in DuPage County.
