TAMPA, FL — An elderly man has died following a house fire that broke out early Saturday morning. Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the fire at 1306 E. Cayuga St. at 3:13 a.m. Responding crews found the single-story home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters began attacking the fire with water and found that the fire had spread to a parked recreational vehicle next to the home. The fire and heat were so intense that firefighters weren't able to enter the home to perform a search and rescue the resident. Once the fire was put out on the exterior of the home, firefighters made their way inside and found the elderly man dead. Due to the fire-related death, the arson task force was called to the scene. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction and ruled the fire an accident. The arson task force is made up of representatives of the Tampa Fire Marshal's Office, Tampa Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Florida Fire Marshal's Office and the State Attorney's office. Damage to the property and its contents is estimated at $70,000.
