MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove could be in line to get millions of dollars in federal funding to put towards the project to connect Highway 610 to County Road 30. U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips submitted a request for the City of Maple Grove to get $2.75 million to support the project, which is projected to cost about $54 million. Phillips said the funding will help create a "long-sought Highway 610 corridor" that will "improve regional mobility and roadway safety." 1st Taco Bell Defy Location Opens In Brooklyn Park Members of Congress can request funding for up to 15 specific projects in their districts that "serve the public good" as part of the appropriations process. The project, known as the Highway 610 Extension Project, is the final portion of a larger project to connect Interstate 94, County Road 30 and Highway 610. Plans include a four-lane highway between I-94 and County Road 30, a connection across the interstate to Highway 610, and ramps to I-94 East and from I-94 West to the 610 extension, according to officials. Highway 610 was built in 1986 between Highway 252 and the junctions Highways 47 and 10, making it the first river crossing between Anoka and Brooklyn Center, officials said. Highway 610 was extended east to Highway 10 in 1999 and to Highway 169 in 2000. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has set aside $5 million to complete the I-94/Highway 610 interchange, which the agency says will "improve access to a rapidly developing area."
