FRANKFORT, IL — Eleven years after Patrick Wizwicki was tragically killed while running in a local forest preserve park with his high school cross country teammates, the community will again come together to honor his memory – by running together.
The 11th annual Patrick Wizwicki Strive For 5 5K walk and run will be held on Saturday at Breidert Green Park in Frankfort. The event will begin at 9:15 a.m. and registration is still ongoing and will continue the day of the event.
The entry fee is $20 and will be increased to $25 for walk-up registration. Registration can be completed by clicking here. Sign-ins and walk-up registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
The race will be timed but running bibs are not provided by race organizers. Water, fruit, and snacks will be provided after the event is complete, organizers said.
The event honors the memory of Patrick, who was killed in 2011 while he was running with his Lincoln-Way East cross country teammates. In the months after his death, Patrick's family was amazed at the amount of support they received from the community.
The kindness sparked an idea to create a foundation that honored Patrick's memory and continued his legacy of working to reach one's goals and making a difference in the world. The Strive For 5 Foundation was created, his family said, to encourage children, teens, and young adults to be their best and do their best.
