ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst City Council was set to vote on a proposed development of 50 townhomes Monday, but officials delayed it. During a council meeting, the clerk read the item on the second phase of the Eldridge Townhomes. But Alderwoman Dannee Polomsky asked to pull the issue from the agenda. She said she wanted the council's zoning committee, which she heads, to further discuss it. She did not give a reason. Mayor Scott Levin said that was the prerogative of a committee chairwoman. No vote was taken. In an email to Patch on Wednesday, Polomsky said, "I want to be sure all options regarding safety, particularly those to prevent illegal turns out of the development, have been fully vetted." Late last month, the council's Development, Planning and Zoning Committee recommended the development on vacant land along Butterfield Road. The complex would be just west of the current 58 Eldridge townhomes, completed a couple of years ago. On the other side is an American Legion post. The developer, Aimco, also built 400 apartments at Elm Creek in Elmhurst. In March, its representatives said the current townhomes have 100 percent occupancy and enjoy customer satisfaction of 4.62 out of 5, which they said was superior in the business. The new townhomes, they said, would be in 11 buildings, a mix of three- and four-bedroom units. At a May meeting, the zoning committee said it appreciated that the developer addressed neighbors' traffic concerns.
