Here are the top three stories today in Mountain Brook: The Birmingham region awoke on Wednesday to massive flooding after heavy rain fell in a short period of time. There were reports of flooding and water damage out of Mountain Brook, as well as Vestavia Hills, Homewood, and Birmingham proper. The police department closed Mountain Brook Parkway from Guilford Road to Overbrook Road, while the fire department alerted to potential flooding along Cahaba Road near Culver Road(Entry to Hwy 280/Red Mountain Expressway), on Fairway Drive and Canterbury Church area near Creek. (WVTM 13)The flooding is estimated to have led to over 40 water rescues. A car was found submerged on Hermosa Drive in Homewood. (AL.com)Another victim of national inflation in Alabama appears to be garbage pickup. In Jefferson County, the company Amwaste estimates as high as 20 to 25% price increases in the near future. Mountain Brook is currently a member of the Cahaba Solid Waste Authority.
