Online Survey Collects COVID Stories From Sunset Park

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A new project in Sunset Park will collect stories about the neighborhood's time during the coronavirus pandemic. Two organizations have partnered up to start The COVID-19 Story Collection Campaign, which will record and share experiences from Sunset Park during the coronavirus crisis. The project — started by New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and Academy of Medical & Public Health Services — comes after town halls hosted by the organizations in the wake of a coronavirus spike in Sunset Park earlier this year. "The project grew organically as a response to the negative media attention that followed the summer case surge, while few have examined the barriers local residents faced in accessing information and resources," the organizations said in a release about the town halls. "The Sunset Park COVID-19 Story Collection Project aims to amplify the voices of community members who have been directly impacted by COVID19 and continue to provide a feedback mechanism for public policy efforts." The story collection campaign will let Brooklynites in Sunset Park submit their stories through an online survey that is available in Chinese, English and Spanish. The survey lets participants type directly into the form or request to have a project organizer call them to record the story. They can also submit photos, audio or videos to accompany their story.
