We will provide on the job training. Position Summary Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville. The site is a long-term project for SLC Homes in the Franklin, TN community of Westhaven. This position performs manual labor as assigned. Operate heavy, material moving construction equipment to excavate, prepares, maintain and/or repair civil and heavy highway – related projects. This position will function for short periods of time independently or with minimal supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Safely perform all essential functions. • Must be prompt, reliable and dependable with work schedule. • Perform manual labor such as digging or shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material or other manual labor duties as assigned. • Demonstrate ability to perform daily lubrication as per operator’s manual. • Pass required certification test to operate equipment. • Complete required paperwork including Operators Daily Report. • Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment. • Frequently work long and unusual hours. • Proactively and diplomatically, communicate with Shop mechanic, Foreman, customers and peers concerning equipment and job-related problems. • Meet performance and technical standards required to qualify for Level 1 position. • Follow all company safety policies. • Ask Questions if do not understand task or how to do it safely. • NEVER perform a task deemed to be unsafe. • Watch out for fellow employees and never be scared to save someone from being injured by saying something. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions: Qualifications: • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge to perform the essential functions. • Prefer high school graduate or equivalent. • Prefer certificate or degree in heavy equipment operation or related field. • Prefer minimum of one year of experience operating heavy equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions: • OSHA safe trenching regulations. • Utility installation. • Heavy construction equipment operation. • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. • Construction operations. • Basic and routine construction drawings, blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications. • Soils, aggregate fill materials, bases, proper mixing and compacting techniques. • Recognize problems or errors at work site related to position. • Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment. • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Work in field environment with exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, noise and inclement weather conditions. • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds. • Physically climb in and out of equipment safely and operate levers or pedals to make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of control mechanisms.
