Description

To legally drive a car, you must become of age, and you must attend education and supervised instruction. Prior to that, you may only practice drive with another licensed driver under extremely restricted conditions. You must maintain and continuously update the licensing process. You are rigorously supervised by arms of the government and even societal scrutiny. You are severely punished if you drive after using substances or otherwise impaired and/or distracted. At any time, the government may arbitrarily remove your right to drive, and all drivers that live long enough age out and are no longer licensed. NONE of that is true with firearms. Your jolting story also ignores the fact that with bats, clubs, hammers, automobiles... people have at least a chance at escape. Not so with a firearm and skilled shooter. Mankind has repeatedly demonstrated that civilians cannot be trusted with machines developed solely for the killing of another human. If we made it illegal for civilians to own anything other than a hunting rifle, the fear of the gun obsessed individuals should diminish, and if we pursued this law as ruthlessly as we do with automobile ownership and licensure, the problem would become miniscule. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked..." Jeremiah 17:9
