Pat Ivey is trying to create the separation of Law Enforcement and City Officials when it comes to Rules. No, the “residency requirement” is not an “obscure rule”, and you’re bound by the City Charter like all other employees. A beat officer may not have read the City Charter but Administrators are responsible for knowing the rules. The previous sheriff pretended he didn’t know then pretended it didn’t apply to his special privilege position. For Pat Ivey to start off suggesting that JSO has special exemption because they’re law enforcement means he’s part of the same “good old white boy” bunch that resists transparency, the same ones that turn on their body-cam after it’s all over. He is another Power Hungry Cop that wants to keep the same power structure going for the white folks. It’s time to call out all the pandering to anyone being so special that the Rule of Law does not apply to them. It is a direct appeal to the Authoritarian movement by republicans to overthrow our democracy. Do you think desantis would appoint someone who didn’t support his nazi agenda? Really? The law enforcement community has been coddled for far too long. We deserve civilian oversight, the fox does not guard the henhouse! WE ALL LIVE BY THE SAME LAWS, JUST SOME DON’T THINK THEY APPLY TO THEM SPECIFICALLY! How many times do LEOs get special treatment? Too many!! Once is too many times!! We have a segment that has created their own American Flag in blue with that thin blue line of privilege running through it. They want to believe that because they enforce the law they can make themselves exempt from what they don’t like. They get to enforce, or not enforce, what they choose. We are all Americans, there is no room for special treatment of those who are supposed to be enforcing law on the rest of us. The profession of Law Enforcement has been perverted to cater to a bunch of power hungry assholes. You see it when they protect themselves first in mass shooting events, when they get a pass on a domestic abuse case, when they get released on a DUI, when they cover-up for other cops…ad infinitum. I believe we should REFUND the police, not de-fund them. Law enforcement needs a complete restructuring. Want an example? Watch a few episodes of UK PD on the BBC channel. That is civilization in societal law enforcement. Traffic offenses DO NOT LEAD TO DEATH BECAUSE TRAFFIC COPS ARE NOT ARMED! If their situation requires an armed officer, they can call for an armed response team. People are not pursued at extreme conditions or speeds for simple violations! Try to re-imagine the structure of American Law Enforcement as de-militarized and truly solution oriented instead of a brute force that shows up looking for who is arrested first. Jacksonville needs to step out of the shadows of The Confederacy and racism once and for all! Let’s have a top cop that believes in the Bill of Rights first! WE ALL DESERVE EQUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, NOT JUST PRIVILEGED WHITES! So, what’s it gonna be: True Reform or more Lip Service and a denial of transparency in our Sheriffs Office? No, I don’t want to hear from you slack jawed yokels, you have no ability to do anything but tell me how great whites are. “We may have come on separate ships, but we’re all in the same boat now!”…whether you like it or not.
