POLK COUNTY, FL — A proposed plan for an apartment community at Publix's Lake Miriam Square in Lakeland was rejected Monday by Lakeland City Commissioners in a vote of 5-2, according to The Ledger.
Preferred Apartment Communities, an Atlanta-based business, in partnership with Publix, requested the city change existing commercial retail zoning to residential at South Florida Avenue and Lake Miriam Drive.
The outlet reported Mayor Bill Mutz and Commissioner Chad McLeod voted in favor of the change.
The majority of the residents in attendance at Monday's meeting were not in support of the request. Traffic congestion was an issue brought up by several attendees, according to the news outlet.
