TAMPA BAY, FL — The body of a 21-year-old from Brandon was found in the Tampa Bay water near the Howard Frankland Bridge Monday following a single-car crash, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the driver—whose name police will not release due to Marsy's Law—had hit the bridge barrier wall on Interstate 275 at the Howard Frankland Bridge southbound with his 2003 Lexus.
Troopers did not release the time of the wreck.
The Lexus stayed on the emergency shoulder following the crash, troopers said.
Detectives have begun investigating how his body wound up in the bay under the span of the bridge.
A Coast Guard boat crew from Sector St. Petersburg found the body at about 4:24 p.m., troopers said.
