This year is all about celebration – celebrating a return to live, in-person performances, celebrating our 30th Anniversary as a world-class music festival, and celebrating the retirement of Ken Nafziger after 30-years of visionary and creative leadership. We are forever grateful for Ken’s service to our community and impact on the arts throughout the Valley. Festival Concerts I, II, and III plus the Baroque Faculty Concert are pay-what-you-can from $10-$40. All other concerts are FREE. See the full line up below. Tickets can be purchased at https://emu.edu/box-office/ or at the door. *Masks are required for all audience members. 2022 FESTIVAL SCHEDULE FESTIVAL CONCERT I Sunday, June 12 at 3:00pm EST, Lehman Auditorium The opening festival concert includes the classic Brandenburg Concertos 1 and 3 by J.S. Bach; a trombone concerto by Nino Rota featuring SVBF artist Jay Crone; and a fun and creative Beatles-inspired suite by Cuban composer, Leo Brouwer featuring guitarist Michael Partington. NOON CONCERTS Monday, June 13 to Friday, June 17 at 12:00pm EST, Asbury United Methodist Church BAROQUE FACULTY CONCERT Thursday, June 16 at 7:30pm EST, Asbury United Methodist Church BEFORE BACH: Bach's Predecessors from the Capitals of EuropeFeaturing music of Dieterich Buxtehude, Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, John Blow, and others by the Virginia Baroque Academy Faculty. FESTIVAL CONCERT II Friday, June 17 at 7:30pm EST, Lehman Auditorium The Festival Concert II program features expansive orchestral works Mississippi River Suite and Dances of the Canebrakes by Florence Price, and the powerful Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring SVBF artist David Berry. BAROQUE WORKSHOP CONCERT Saturday, June 18 at 11:00am EST, Martin Chapel Virginia Baroque Academy workshop participants will perform chamber music, and also the Antonio Caldara "Il Giuoco del Quadriglio" (The Card Game) will be staged. This is a free concert. KIDS CONCERT: BOOK NOTES! Saturday, June 18 at 1:00pm EST, Central Library FESTIVAL CONCERT III Saturday, June 18, 7:30pm EST, Lehman Auditorium Festival Concert III concludes our week of evening performances with the monumental Mass in B Minor by J.S. Bach featuring soloists Michele Kennedy, soprano; Veronica Chapman Smith, soprano; Patrick Dailey, countertenor; Kenneth Gayle, tenor; and John Fulton, baritone. LEIPZIG SERVICE Sunday, June 19 at 11:00am EST, Lehman Auditorium Sunday morning’s Leipzig service features Cantata Lobe den Herren, BWV 137 by J.S. Bach and soloists Veronica Chapman Smith, soprano; Patrick Dailey, countertenor; Kenneth Gayle, tenor; and John Fulton, baritone.
