Program Details:  Bike Share and Open Streets: Tools for increasing bicycle mode awareness Presented by: Brett Atencio Thomas, City of Costa Mesa, Active Transportation Coordinator ______________________________________________________________________________________ Brett Atencio Thomas is the City of Costa Mesa’s first Active Transportation Coordinator. Before beginning his role at the City, Brett Atencio was Principal Transportation Planner at LA Metro where he managed the system design, station siting, permitting, community outreach, and installation of over 220 Metro Bike Share stations; administered the largest Open Streets program in North America; developed and administered the Metro Adopt-a-Bike Pilot Program to distribute over 3,000 bikes to resource-challenged communities; and was acting bicycle modal lead for the LA County Call For Projects grant program. Additional experience in transit includes service planning and bus scheduling for the Pasadena Rapid Transit System and headways testing on the Metro Expo Line Phase Two light rail system. Brett Atencio holds a Graduate Certificate of Urban Design and Development from UCLA, a Bachelor’s of Urban Studies and Planning from San Francisco State University, and a Master’s of Urban and Regional Planning from UCLA.
