BOSTON — The search for the next head coach of the Boston Bruins is officially on after General Manager Don Sweeney announced Bruce Cassidy had been fired from the position. "I just made a clear decision that I needed a change, and that's where I arrived yesterday afternoon," Sweeney said in a press conference Tuesday. "It was a very difficult decision, both personally and professionally." Cassidy had served as head coach for six seasons, during which he had the best regular-season winning percentage (.672, 245-108-46) of anyone who coached the Bruins for more than three seasons, according to the Boston Globe. Many fans took to Twitter to express their shock over Sweeney's decision. Coaches are replaceable. Bruce Cassidy was always going to get fired someday. He knew that. But this firing just doesn't add up. The direction of the Bruins is up in the air. The job Cassidy did was good. Since then, the Bruins have made it to the playoffs every year. The 2018-19 season saw them reach Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. "It's still very raw," Cassidy told the Boston Globe over text Monday night.
