SILVER SPRING, MD — A Clarksburg man is facing charges after police say he falsely identified himself as a police officer to enter a gated community and block a car at an intersection inside on May 15, a Montgomery County Police news release said. Matthew Kinsey, 47, has been charged with impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment — he was released on a $3,000 bond, authorities said. After Kinsey blocked the car in the intersection of the Leisure World community in Silver Spring, he approached and said he was a Montgomery County Police officer, a police news release says. The driver asked why Kinsey's car didn't have any lights and asked to see a badge. Authorities say that Kinsey did not respond, but went to the front of the car and took a picture of the license plate before getting back in his car, which was a Barwood Taxi sedan. Police say that when the victim drove away Kinsey followed, and the victim called 911. Police are asking anyone else who thinks they may have seen or talked to Kinsey identifying himself as a police officer to call the 4th District Station at (240) 773- 5500.
