Description

Most social studies classrooms cover the dates, people, and the horrendous events of the Holocaust. But what was the human impact on those wishing to flee? Most of our students will assume everyone who wished to leave could do so and escape the impending Holocaust. After all, in their lives, you just make a plane reservation and go! Go to the ATM and get cash. No big deal! Therefore, this workshop will focus on human migration before, during, and after WWII. Where could those people fleeing Nazi-controlled territories go? What avenues were available to those who wanted "out?" What were the processes for emigrating? What can we learn from personal accounts of those who attempted to flee? Where did the successful emigrants go? It is a migration story that continues for many years after 1945. Join us for this in-person workshop. Listen to a guest speaker (family member of survivors). Take home lesson plans, and resources. Eat a free lunch. Add geography to your unit on the Holocaust. Location: Arizona Jewish Historical Society, 122 E.
