PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Drivers are feeling the pain at the pump, but in one Prince George's County community, gas prices skyrocketed over the weekend.
According to The Daily Record, the Shell station located near the Bowie Baysox stadium posted gas prices on Sunday more than $1 per gallon higher than a nearby competitor. The price stayed at $6.13 for almost two days, costing nearly as much as a gallon of gas in California.
"It makes no sense that a station in Maryland would charge that much," Ragina Ali, a spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic, told The Daily Record.
On Monday, the average price for a gallon of fuel nationally was $4.84 per gallon and diesel fuel averaged $5.94, according to the motor club. But in California, Monday's gas prices paid at the pump hit a record-high average of $6.34 per gallon for regular gasoline. Later that day, the price at the Bowie Shell had dropped to $5.13 per gallon.
By Monday, the price at the Bowie Shell had been reduced to $5.13 per gallon.
Maryland does not have an anti-price gouging law in place.
