Man Charged With Murder 2 Years After Fatal Annapolis Shooting: Police

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man was charged with murder nearly two years after a homicide in Annapolis, city police announced late Monday night. Officers identified the arrestee as 18-year-old Jaden Kemeatrius Crowner of Brooklyn, Maryland. Authorities accused him of fatally shooting Walters Mpang Halle Elangwe, 29, in July 2020. Officials said they got an arrest warrant last Friday and served it to Crowner, who was already in custody at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Crowner now faces charges of first-degree murder and several other related offenses, a press release said. The Annapolis Police Department first heard about the shooting in the 1100 block of Primrose Court on July 11, 2020 around 3:57 p.m. Officers said they found Elangwe suffering from injuries consistent with being shot. Elangwe later died from his injuries at an unnamed hospital, authorities said. Annapolis detectives said they eventually identified Crowner as the suspect. "I'd like to thank Detective Nancy Moore and all the officers and investigators who assisted the investigation of Mr. Elangwe's tragic murder," Chief Edward C. Jackson said in the release.
