Press release from the City of Ames: June 3, 2022 The public is encouraged to provide input to the City of Ames on its CARES (COVID-19) second round application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a second round of COVID-19 funds to states to fund programs in entitlement cities. The State of Iowa allocated $604,386 to Ames based on population. The purpose of these funds is to help to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19 for children in daycare. The City of Ames is proposing approximately $487,432 of these funds to assist three area non-profit daycare agencies implement social distancing practices with classroom and kitchen expansions, mechanical upgrades, appliances, and technology. Of the remaining balance, $30,000 is proposed to assist a food distribution agency with a cargo van to provide food delivery services for families, individuals, and the elderly. Approximately $44,000 is being set aside for cost overages, and $42,000 has been earmarked for project delivery costs directly related to the activities. The 2020 Entitlement CDBG-CV application outlines proposed activities, project locations, budgets, and the scope of activities proposed.
