Join us on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon for a public workday at Pleasant Garden Cemetery. The abandoned cemetery, formally organized in March 1891, sits on 17 acres of land and was promoted as the first privately owned Black cemetery in Tennessee.
The workday will focus on labor-intensive removal of fallen branches, brush, and trees, clearing designated areas that have been overtaken by ivy, kudzu, and privet. Participants must bring their own tools such as loppers, pruning shears, pruning saws, and chainsaws.
This event is in partnership with the African American Cemetery Preservation Fund, the Chattanooga Historical Society, and Pleasant Garden Cemetery.
