I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through the most important things happening in Long Beach these days. A non-fatal stabbing happened Sunday evening. Also, an attic fire displaced two residents from an apartment building. Finally, that crane that's in the middle of Ximeno will most likely stay there until July. Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today: On Sunday evening at around 9:35 p.m., the LBPD responded to the 5900 block of East Spring Street. There were reports of a stabbing. "The victim stated he was near the area when he entered into a verbal dispute with a male adult suspect that escalated to the stabbing." The suspect fled the scene. (LBPD)Earlier that day, at 1 p.m., there was an attic fire at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of 55th Way. At that time, firefighters "noted that a nearby transformer had failed, and power lines had fallen onto the roof of the apartment building." Although the blaze was out in 10 minutes, two residents were displaced. (LB Post) Update: On May 13, we talked about the sinkhole that formed "in an alley east of Long Beach's Ximeno Avenue and Seventh Street." L.A. County Sanitation fixed it on May 18. On May 23, the crews returned, placed a 40-foot crane on Ximeno, and might be there until some time in July. Crews found the "sewer to be in poor condition" and requiring repair. "Most of the work will take place during the day, while the actual pipe lining will be an overnight project." (Patch, Press-Telegram) Mayor Robert Garcia reminds you that today is election day! There are several conveniently located vote centers that will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. where you can drop off your ballot. (Long Beach Mayor) Mark your calendars!
