DARIEN, IL – New signs alerting drivers to a sharp curve on North Frontage Road in Darien represents "subtle progress," an official said Monday. The section of North Frontage in question is west of Cass Avenue. Last year, two people died in a motorcycle crash in that area. At Monday's City Council meeting, Alderwoman Mary Sullivan told her colleagues that the state Department of Transportation recently placed signs alerting drivers about the curve in both directions. Speed limit signs have also been added, she said. "We're forging ahead and voicing our hope for some type of barrier to be put in," Sullivan said. About 7 a.m. Sept. 27, a passerby saw a motorcycle in a ditch between North Frontage Road and the Cass Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate 55. As it turned out, a man and a woman died in a crash. They were believed to have been heading east on North Frontage Road about 14 hours earlier. Officials have said the fence next to North Frontage Road is often down. At an October meeting, Sullivan referred to the crash. "That is quite a sharp turn," Sullivan said. "We're not even talking weather issues right now. It was a dry night. There was no ice."
