CHICAGO — A machete-wielding man who has robbed at least eight people in recent weeks remains on the loose, according to Chicago police.
The man, whom police did not describe other than to say he used a machete in each robbery, last struck over the weekend, police said. All of the robberies have taken place on Chicago's Northwest Side, including on Saturday evening when someone was approached in the 3700 block of North Troy, police said.
Police said the victim threw his wallet at the man with the machete and escaped unharmed. The robber then fled in a gray vehicle that was driven by someone else, police said.
Robberies involving the machete have taken place in Logan Square, Hermosa, Belmont-Cragin, Albany Park, Avondale, and Irving Park, police said.
Anyone who has information about the man is asked to contact Chicago police, who have set up extra patrols in the neighborhoods where the reported attacks have taken place.
