Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: June 5, 2022 The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report. On June 4, 2022, at about 11:57 A.M., San Diego Police Officers respond to the 11200 block of Tierrasanta Blvd., San Diego, to assist the San Diego Fire Department with a possible fire in an apartment. Firefighters saw smoke emitting from an apartment and forcibly opened the front door. A man sitting on a couch inside the apartment pointed a handgun at the firefighters. The firefighters retreated from the apartment. San Diego Police Officers were positioned in the hallway of the apartment. The man exited the apartment, pointed a handgun at the officers. Three officers fired at the man. The man ran back into his apartment, out his back patio and down a walkway behind the apartment complex. Officers on the perimeter of the apartment complex heard what sounded like a single gunshot outside of the complex. Air Born Law Enforcement (ABLE) was flying overhead and observed the male lying motionless on the walkway. Officers approached the man and determined he was deceased. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. No officers were injured. The Medical Examiner has scheduled an autopsy for the man today, June 5, 2022.
