Kane County Health Department To Host 15th Annual Aurora Health Fair

AURORA, IL — The 15th annual community health fair is coming up in Aurora this weekend, and visitors will have a variety of health-involved activities to partake in. The Kane County Health Department is partnering with the Aurora African American Health Coalition and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois to host the event — titled Health Fair: Healthy Mind, Body and Soul — from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave. At the free event, visitors can get vaccinated, hear speakers, visit vendors, see fitness demos, pick up healthy snacks and shop at a farmers market. There will also be activities for children and giveaways happening, according to a news release. Several no-cost health screenings will be available, too. People participating are required to register in advance and fast for eight hours beforehand. Screenings include: Panel C: Testing that consists of a 37- component blood chemistry profile. In addition to identifying signs of heart disease and diabetes, Panel C tests for liver and kidney malfunction, and thyroid, blood and nutrition disorders. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA): Screens for signs of prostate cancer in men.Body Mass Index: BMI will be calculated if height and weight are self-reported. Representatives from the Kane County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Management will also be at the health fair to offer classes in emergency and disaster preparedness as well as first aid tips geared toward children in first through fifth grades.
