Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today: On Monday, a Magic City Acceptance Academy document was hijacked and edited to include homophobic slurs and imagery. The LGBTQ-affirming public charter school in the Birmingham area created the document, which was featured on the school's website, to provide parents with information related to remote learning. According to Michael Wilson, founding principal of Magic City Acceptance Academy, the school was taking down all inappropriate content. (WIAT - CBS42.com)The Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival will be returning to Birmingham in August. After a two-year hiatus, the free festival will be open to the public on Aug. 27. The festival, organized and managed by non-profit 501c3 organization Urban Impact, Incorporated, has remained one of the most anticipated events of the summer, bringing together artists, vendors, and the entire community for food, fun, and tons of entertainment. (Birmingham Times)The name of the elderly man who was killed in a Birmingham house fire has been released. 89-year-old Horace Eugene Farmer has been identified as the victim, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. On Sunday, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the home at 1012 Winchester Drive for reports indicating the victim was trapped in the den of the residence and people were trying to get to him to rescue him.
