During this workshop participants will explore the basics of mindfulness and practice mindfulness in a variety of styles (journaling, meditation, movement, and sound healing). We will discuss the benefits of mindfulness on our health and the importance of self-care. Participants will leave with the tools to create their own mindfulness practices after engaging in meditation, sound healing, and self-reflection. This event is sponsored by Leach Botanical Gardens. Featured Facilitator: Vanessa Pacheco Vanessa works full time as the Program Coordinator for the non-profit The Blueprint Foundation, connecting Black identifying youth to Green Workforce opportunities and nature-based learning. In her personal time, Vanessa has found purpose in bringing others with marginalized identities together to learn about and experience mindfulness; she has led mindfulness workshops for the past 2 years with youth and adults and believes everyone deserves access to healing and spaces to be their authentic selves. Vanessa is an Afro-Latina transracial adoptee and Domestic Violence survivor, two aspects of her identity that fuel her passion for social and transformative justice. She has found immense healing within nature, mindfulness, somatic practices, and community and believes that individual healing occurs within community healing. Everything Vanessa touches is transformed by her radiant love for the earth and her community. For self-care, Vanessa enjoys any/all time in nature, traveling, writing, spending time with those she loves, and petting neighborhood cats! ABOUT WELLNESS WEEK 2022: In celebration of the Juneteenth Holiday, Black Men's Wellness is honored to offer a week of holistic health activities for Black men, youth, and the local community. This week will include workshops and activities that promote physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health & well-being. This week-long celebration will reinforce the strength and health of Black men, fathers, brothers, sons, and elders within themselves and their communities.
