NORTHPORT, NY — Maritime Day is scheduled for Saturday in Northport Village Park. The festival is slated to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature the Northport Blessing of the Fleet, sponsored by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and more activities. There will be educational groups, historic and research vessels available for public viewing, music, and many fun activities. The festival is meant to celebrate Northport's nautical past, present and future. Maritime Day events include: Lively nautical music by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Band and other local artists.A series of engaging Nautical Programs by Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program.Maritime History and Art from the Northport Historical Society and Northport Arts Coalition.Seamanship Skills by the Sea Scouts.Judged "Best Chowder & Bisque Contest" from Northport restaurants."Rain Gutter Regatta" by the Sea Scouts."Hands-On Marine Experiences" by the Oyster Bay Waterfront Center.Judged "Best Nautical Brew Competition" from local breweries.Maritime Festival Specials featured at many Northport restaurants. A fleet parade of more than 100 boats from yacht clubs in the area is expected for the Northport Blessing of the Fleet. Elected officials, local Coast Guard supporters and many local residents are expected to be on hand for the blessing, which is expected to run from 10 a.m. to noon.
