POLK COUNTY, FL — If you are wanting to earn a GED or high school diploma while learning entry-level work skills, YouthBuild-Lakeland has opened its applications for these opportunities, a city news release said. Youthbuild-Lakeland is a six-month program for residents 18 to 24 years of age. Through the program, students will study to earn their GED or high school diploma while training to earn certifications in one of the following: forklift operating, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, carpentry training and nursing assistant training. Hands-on training is offered through the construction training program at construction work sites, the city said. Students will receive a bi-weekly stipend while studying to obtain their GED and learn occupational skills, the city said. According to the city, scholarships are available to assist with post-secondary education and transportation assistance. The program is free to students accepted into the program, the city said.
