Press release from Richland County School District Two: June 3, 2022 Students fulfilling their dreams of going to college are getting some significant help with the price tag. The financial impact of a high quality college education has motivated students in the graduating Class of 2022 to earn more than $157,957,278 in college scholarships. Individual totals for all five high schools are as follows: Blythewood High School Richland Northeast High School Ridge View High School Spring Valley High School Westwood High School This graduating class includes 12 students who earned a high school diploma and college degree at the same time. The students enrolled in the Richland Two AVID Early College housed at Ridge View High School four years ago. They received Associate's degrees in the Arts from district partner the University of South Carolina-Sumter and saved at least $25,376 per student, $304,512 collectively. The Richland Two AVID Early College program is available each year only to rising 8th grade students across the district. There is an application and acceptance process. More information is on the district's website: www.richland2.org. Richland Two Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis says the cost of going to college is always top of mind for parents of students who are seeking higher education. "Our graduating seniors have worked hard to lighten the load for themselves and their families. I am proud of the tools and opportunities Richland Two offers students to aid them in pursuing their dreams without having to finance their future," said Dr. Davis. This week Richland Two will hold commencement ceremonies at Colonial Life Arena beginning with Westwood High at 8 a.m., Blythewood High at noon and Richland Northeast High at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, June 1. On Thursday, June 2, graduations will begin at 8 a.m. with Spring Valley High and Ridge View High at noon. Tickets are not required. The ceremonies will stream live on the district's website: richland2.org/livestream. The last day of school is Thursday, June 2.
