Danbury Residents To Vote On $208M Education Bond Referendum Tuesday

DANBURY, CT — Residents will vote Tuesday on a $208 million spending package for a new school and other education improvements. Polls for the Educational Bond Referendum will be open 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Voters will decide whether the city can borrow $208 million to build a new Danbury Career Academy on property to be purchased at the site of the former Cartus Corporation headquarters. The bond would also cover various upgrades and improvements at Danbury High School, Hayestown Avenue Elementary School and King Street Primary School. A portion of the funding would also go toward addressing district-wide overcrowding. The ballot may be seen online here. On Monday, Mayor Dean Esposito and Superintendent Kevin Walston announced there would be a heightened police presence at voting locations. Public access to all school buildings will be restricted during voting hours. "The safety and security of our children, teachers and staff are our top priority as leaders of the City of Danbury and the Danbury Public Schools," Esposito and Walston said in a joint statement.
