Doors open at 7:30, show starts at 8:00 This event is outdoors, please bring a chair if you'd like to be guaranteed a seat. ------------------------------ Join the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra for the first performance of our 2022 Black Box Summer Series with vocalist, bandleader and composer Kelley Gant! Kelley is the vocalist for KCJO's newest ensemble, Riff Generation. A talented improviser, Kansas-born Kelley Gant is adept at using voice, whistling, and arsenal of effect pedals to create engaging melodies or lush ambient soundscapes in both traditional jazz ensembles and her small electro/acoustic band. Since 2015, Kelley has been a producer for the International Musicians League, working with hundreds of Kansas City’s musicians. In 2019, she founded the "Spine Showcases" performance series, produced in partnership with the Charlotte Street Foundation to elevate and promote overlooked jazz composers in Kansas City. Kelley will be joined by a powerhouse quartet, with Alyssa Murray on piano, Seth Lee on bass and Matt Leifer on drums.
