About the Program: Explore the forest for a close look at local fungi in their natural habitats and learn about the surrounding ecology. Utilizing mushroom photography as an important tool, Ryan and Emily will teach you science-based, safe methods to learn about the world of wild mushrooms. Attendees should bring cameras or phones with ringers off. Please note that collecting is strictly prohibited at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. This Walk and Talk is first in a four-part series. Join us for a Mushroom Hunting Lecture Series this summer to learn about about mushrooms! About the Guest Lecturers: Ryan T. Bouchard is the author and photographer of the groundbreaking book Gourmet Mushrooms of the Northeast 2019. Emily Schmidt also studies our local mushroom species and their nutritional values and teaches creative cooking that highlights their many unique flavors. Together they created The Mushroom Hunting Foundation, and they have educated thousands of people about safely enjoying America’s wild mushrooms.
