OAK LAWN, IL — Life is coming back to the south suburbs with the return of parish carnivals, along with the Tilt-A-Whirl, the bands, the funnel cakes, the games and the sense of normalcy that we've missed for the past two years. St. Catherine of Alexandria, 10621 S. Kedvale Ave., Oak Lawn, will be ready to go June 8 through June 12, featuring rides, games, raffles, food, the famous beer garden and live entertainment. North American Midway Entertainment will be putting up the midway this week with rides for big folks and little folks. The parish is offering some dandy prizes including a $5,000 grand prize raffle, pull-tabs, split-the-pot, paddle games and daily bingo. There will also be great grub for purchase, including beef and sausage, brats and hot dogs, pizza and corn, hamburgers, chicken wings, waffle fries, Clancy's corned beef and pot roast balls, chicken tenders and DEEP FRIED OREOS. Children's activities including face painting and games will be on tap in the Alexandria Center.Patrons can buy at the presale price $25 wristband for unlimited rides for the day. We've included the QR code where you can purchase and download a printed wristband up until 11:59 p.m. June 7. Ride wristbands will be available during the carnival at the ticket booth for $30. Carnival Schedule Wednesday, 6 to 10:30 p.m., June 8 Electricland, 6 to 7 p.m.Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, First Responder Toast, 7 p.m.Sorry for Partying, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m., June 9 - Diverse Needs The carnival will open two hours early on June 9 so that children and adults with diverse needs can enjoy the carnival without lights, loud music and other distractions. Each diverse need rider will receive one free ride bracelet from North American Midway Entertainment. St. Catherine students will be available as ride buddies to accompany riders. Food booths will be open during this time. The Alexandria Center will also be open for kiddie games and face painting for a small fee. No documentation or special ID is required.
