DARIEN, IL – A Darien resident said at a public meeting last week that he received a threatening letter that was signed by "antifa." Noel Manley, who has criticized Hinsdale High School District 86's equity efforts, told the school board that he received the letter in May. "Note that I have been involved in several heated issues regarding District 86 over the years. But I have never been personally threatened," Manley said. He said the two-page threatening letter contained "swastikas, angry acronyms, foul language and accusations of being a hater." He spoke about the letter during public comments at the board meeting. He focused most of his speech on his criticism of the district's spending on consultants and a director for its equity efforts. "I ask, where is the equity dividend?" Manley said. "Sadly, there is no dividend, only a woke school system and the division it creates." Manley said he notified the Darien Police Department about the letter. An investigation is underway, he said. Patch sought the police report, but Darien police declined the request. The department said its release would interfere with pending or "reasonably contemplated" law enforcement proceedings. Manley's wife is former school board member Claudia Manley. In 2015, they were involved in an incident with a student campaigning for a school board member on Hinsdale South High School property. The Manleys later filed litigation in the matter, but were unsuccessful.
