Head To Head Races; Sheriff & DA Candidates Battle It Out: CA Primary

DANVILLE, CA — Tuesday is Election Day for the California primary when voters will decide key races in the Tri-Valley and at the state level. Arguably one of the biggest local races is for Contra Costa Sheriff/Coroner. Incumbent David Livingston is running to hold his spot against Benjamin Therriault. Livingston was elected as the 22nd sheriff of Contra Costa County in June of 2010. Deputy District Attorney Mary Knox has had a vocal campaign running against incumbent DA Diana Becton. Joseph Rubay is again challenging Rebecca Bauer-Kahan for the 16th State Assembly District seat. Bauer-Kahan has represented the Tri-Valley district since 2018. Rubay has challenged her multiple times. County superintendent of schools Lynn Mackey is the only person on the ballot for her seat. In local races such as sheriff, DA and superintendent of county schools, candidates need a 50 percent plus 1 majority to win. If no candidate gets 50 percent plus 1, the top two have a runoff in November. This means local races could see winners on Election Day.
