Press release from the City of Minnetonka:
June 3, 2022
The Minnetonka City Council has recommended Mike Funk to become the community's next city manager. Funk, who currently serves as acting city manager, emerged as the top candidate following interviews with three finalists conducted by the council during a study session on Thursday, June 2. The council has directed its consultant and appropriate city staff to negotiate and prepare an employment agreement with Funk that will be presented at an upcoming council meeting.
The search for a city manager began following the retirement last year of Geralyn Barone. The council retained GovHR USA to conduct a nationwide search that identified 47 applicants. Finalists were selected in May by the city council from a group of 11 candidates pre-screened by GovHR USA. A community panel and city department directors interviewed finalists on Wednesday, prior to the city council study session.
Funk has 26 years of experience in local government and began serving as Minnetonka's assistant city manager in 2019. Prior to that, he served as assistant city manager/director of human resources for Maplewood and city administrator for Minnetrista and Olivia. Funk has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Southwest Minnesota State University.
