WVUA 23 Promotes Tamika Alexander To Senior News Anchor

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A face familiar to many in the Tuscaloosa and University of Alabama communities has been promoted to a new role in the WVUA 23 newsroom. Tamika Alexander, a longtime anchor with the Tuscaloosa-based station, has been announced as the station's new senior news anchor. She will take the place of legendary do-it-all newswoman and former station news director Lynn Brooks, who announced her retirement last spring after more than two decades. The announcement was made Monday by WVUA 23 News Director Kay Norred. Alexander will now anchor the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news broadcasts. "Anyone who has worked with Tamika knows she brings tremendous passion, talent, and experience to this role," Norred said. Alexander — a Tuscaloosa native and graduate of Central High School and the University of Alabama — previously worked as the station's 10 p.m. weekday anchor prior to her promotion. WVUA 23 says Alexander has been employed at the station since 1998, when it was known as WJRD. Over that time she has worked as an associate producer, producer, reporter and anchor.
