WORCESTER, MA — Drivers in the Worcester area will encounter two detours this week along two of the region's main freeways. On Tuesday night, MassDOT will shut down the I-290 Southbridge Street exit 15 for paving work. The closure will last from about 8 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers headed westbound on I-290 (toward the Mass Pike) will be detoured north to the Vernon Street exit at Kelley Square to access westbound lanes. Eastbound drivers will be directed to a similar detour at exit 13, Auburn Street. Also on Tuesday, MassDOT will squeeze Route 146 southbound down to one lane at the Main Street and Lackey Dam Road Bridges in Sutton and Douglas. That change will last from 7 p.m. Tuesday until about 1 p.m. on Thursday. Route 146 will drop to one lane again at 7 p.m. Friday and lasting until 1 p.m. on Sunday. MassDOT is working on bridge repairs in that area.
