Where You Will Work: NCAR’s Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL) is a leader in supercomputing and data services necessary for the advancement of atmospheric and geospace science. CISL’s mission is to remain a leader at the forefront of ensuring that research universities, NCAR, and the larger atmospheric, oceanographic, and related research communities have access to the computational resources they need for their research. To fulfill the need for a stronger workforce at the intersection of High Performance Computing (HPC) and geoscience problems, CISL engages in education and outreach activities to inspire and attract a diverse future workforce. What You Will Do: This position assists with facility maintenance, shift work support, shipping and receiving, cleaning and fleet vehicle management for the NCAR Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) Facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming, as part of the Operations and Services Division in the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL). Responsibilities: Light facility maintenance – Patching and painting of walls to keep the facility in the highest quality condition. Assist Electrical and Mechanical staff with facility projects. Operate heavy machinery such as snow plows and various lifts. Assist with the preventative maintenance on equipment. Also maintain all aspects of the facility not directly related to mechanical and electrical such as walls, floor base, flooring, ceilings, etc. Cleaning – Work with the Infrastructure Support Group; Cheyenne (ISGC) staff to maintain the Central Utility Plant to be clean and orderly. Shipping and Receiving - provides logistics handling and support for NWSC shipping and receiving. Important duties include receiving shipments, notifying end users and correct data entry into UCAR’s receiving system in a timely and correct manner. Fleet vehicle / NWSC vehicle management – Monitor GSA fleet vehicles and NWSC owned vehicles assigned to the NWSC to make sure insurance cards, mileage reports and overall maintenance is completed according to GSA instructions including checking engine oil, tire pressures and fuel tank levels. This also includes small engines such as generators and snow equipment. Serves as CISL’s NWSC Export Control Coordinator with assisting staff in reviewing proposed Exports, provides assistance with regard to Export compliance and assists in filing for licenses with the Federal Government. What You Need: Education and Years of Experience: High school degree or equivalent and at least two years of large industrial scale facility maintenance and/ or industrial plant operator experience required. Logistics experience is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in working in a network and web based computing environment.Knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software (ideally: Microsoft office and/or Google Suite Apps). Knowledge of basic office procedures, including operation of office equipment such as, telephones, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and printers. Knowledge of shipping and receiving logistics, notification and procedures. Basic knowledge of safe working practices regarding painting supplies, ladders, lift equipment etc. Basic knowledge of GSA vehicle maintenance requirements and procedure Knowledge of MSDS tracking documentation and keeping manuals up to date Ability to apply basic computational math skills, i.e. percentages, decimals. Ability to learn and apply organizational policies and procedures. Tool identification and proper usage Knowledge of snow plow and various lift usage. Ability to operate scissor lifts, skid steer machines, trucks with/without snow plows, riding floor cleaning machinery. Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
