Hey there! I run a local 501 c3 nonprofit animal rescue Called Pigeons Rule Roost Inc. Ive gotten a fair number of messages and emails about lost/found doves, parakeets/parrots and pigeons recently. I thought I'd put a line out there so you contact the rescue incase folks haven't heard of us and need help. Here are a few tips if you see a pigeon or dove in need of help (signs like they're all fluffed up, sitting on the ground, easy to walk up to and pick up, swollen toes/string wrapped around its toes ect) and it isn't easy to catch right away, you can use a dog crate with a string tied to the door to catch it. Put some seed and water in the crate and wait for the bird to go in. If you dont have a crate, a laundry basket with a stick and string will work the same or, you could use a light sheet and gently toss it over the bird on the ground. Once any injured or sick bird is contained you can get it to the nearest rescue/wildlife rehab location. Pigeons Rules Roost Inc is in Westminster MD, I recommend always getting the bird to the nearest location that can take them in, quick action is important, once a bird shows signs of illness its often pretty bad off, best to get it to help as quick as you can.
