Description

This little guy is a 2 1/2 year old German shepherd lab mix who is searching for a family. He came to live with us about 2-3 months ago. At first it was a very rough adjustment for him. He hid in his kennel or in a corner and was very overwhelmed by the noise level in our house with three young kids, a 11 month old puppy, and a talkative cat. He has come out of his shell a lot, but we still need to find him a new home. Our reason for this is because he snaps and growls at us if he feels threatened or overwhelmed. He hasn’t bitten anyone, but he makes it clear when he needs his space. It’s not often, but it has happened enough times for us to not be comfortable having him around our kids. This is non-negotiable, because their safety comes first and I am not experienced enough to know how to correct this behavior. We have our kids stay away from him and respect his space, but he will still do it to me or my husband. For example, he did it to my husband once when he was trying to put a leash on him because he didn’t want to come inside for the night. It feels like an accident waiting to happen, especially with my developmentally delayed toddler who doesn’t understand boundaries as well. This young dog would likely thrive in a home with no little kids and with experienced dog owners. He is otherwise a very sweet, well-behaved boy. He gets along well with cats and our other dog. We know very little about his previous home, but we do know they had little kids, another dog, and a cat. He is an absolute angel compared to our 11 month old German Shepherd, other than the growling and snapping. He is now crate trained and took to it like a champ! Other things we do know about him: He loves playing in water. He loves cats. He loves playing with other dogs. He loves food, so we put his food in a slow feeder. He is house trained. He is much smaller in height than our purebred German shepherd, but he is very stout. He enjoys playing fetch in the backyard with my older kids. He is a strong chewer, so he needs very strong toys. If you are interested in giving this little guy a home, please email me. There is no rehoming fee.
