Description

We welcome you all to this very special event. The Hilllsboro Historical Society is hostoing this incredible event where we will gather for our annual meeting and feature 3 very historic things at once! Starting at 3 PM our gathering will have an opening presentation of the John and Lizzie Shute Farm where we will be gathering. This 1880s farmhouse and associated grounds is listed on the National Historic Registry and is currently undergoing preservation. The historic red barn with associated farm store will be open during the event and the grounds will be available for all to explore including extensive gardens. At 3:15 PM our featured speaker, Esther Stutzman of the Kalapuya/Grand Ronde Tribe, will enlighten attendees with lessons, traditions, and stories of the peolpe who called our valley home, the Atfalati. Esther is a master story teller and gives incredible information and detail to all who listen. This is one of the few chances to learn about the people who called our valley home for millenia before this modern time we live in. Lastly, a discussion about the historic Methodist Meeting House and the pioneer children buried there be given. Those in attendance will walk across the street to see the memorial going in and experience it first hand. We will honor the buried children of Joseph and Virginia Meek and hear from their living relative (Judy Gates Goldmann) about the history involved with this hallowed site. This event is open to all and children of all ages are welcome. While you do not need a ticket to come signing up here for a free ticket will help us plan for this event! Tell your friends and make it out to learn all you can at this historic location and event! Thank you all- Dirk Knudsen; President of the Hillsboro Historical Society www.HillsboroHistory.com
