Description
HOG DAZE TO TAKE PLACE AUGUST 19-20, 2022! The impetus behind creating Hog Daze is the Cornfield Classic. This is an International Championship Motorcycle Race that took place in Marion, Indiana in the years 1919 & 1920. Many motorcycle racing greats competed in these races and history was made each year. The most notable story to come out of the Cornfield Classic is the one about Harley Davidson rider, Ray Weishaar and his pet pig. After Ray won the 1920 race he took a victory lap with his piglet riding along. Everyone loved it. His teammates began calling themselves the Hog Boys. Photos of Ray and his pig on a Harley Davidson motorcycle were printed and a pop culture icon was created. It was this event that dubbed Harley Davidson motorcycles “hogs”. To commemorate this international race, IMPS is sponsoring a time trial race on August 20. 2022 over the same course as the historic race. The course is on county roads outside of the city limits of Marion. In order to hold the event, traffic will be detoured around the area for three hours, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Participation will be limited to 120 motorcyclists riding their own vehicles four laps around the course, following all traffic laws and the posted speed limit. In advance of the event, four members of the IMPS board of directors will be individually timed riding their own motorcycles four times around the course and their times will be averaged to establish the winning time trial time for the race. Motorcyclists will be started on the course 15 seconds apart so that the last participant will leave the starting line 30 minutes after the first participant. It is expected that all 120 motorcyclists will complete four laps around the course in about one hour. The motorcyclist who completes four laps of the racecourse in a time closest to the ideal winning time established by the IMPS Board of Directors will win a cash prize of $1,000; second will be awarded $500; third place will receive $250.
