Description
Press release from the Spokane Fire Department:
June 3, 2022
At 6:28 PM June 2nd, 2022, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to a structure on fire in the 2100 Block of East Longfellow. A first alarm comprised of several companies from the Spokane Fire Department quickly responded, the first arriving in under three minutes.
As the first company approached the scene, firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from a basement window near the front of the residence and declared a working fire. The fire's location required several companies to stretch and control hose, ventilate the structure of smoke and heat, and perform a thorough search for possible occupants on all floors.
The fire area was contained in the basement and extinguished in quick order—however, the structure suffered extensive smoke damage to the basement and minor smoke damage to the first floor.
Neither civilians nor firefighters were injured as a result of the fire. One pet remains missing. The fire's cause remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit.
