Press release from the University of Houston-Downtown: May 31, 2022 For those of us living along the Gulf Coast, it's time to prepare for what promises to be another active season. UHD's Office of Emergency Management is reminding members of the University community about the importance of hurricane preparedness. Here are a few helpful tips to address home and campus hurricane preparedness. Home SafetyBe sure that your hurricane preparedness plan takes into account all of the members of your household, as well as your pets. Have a basic hurricane kit ready, know your evacuation route, and communicate with your family and friends. Monitor severe weather through trusted sources such as the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service. Campus PreparednessKeep a small bag with emergency supplies, in your car or in your backpack that includes extra prescription medication, contact lenses (including a case and solution), a small flashlight, and a phone charger. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to monitor the weather closely whether on and off campus. During severe weather, stay informed by monitoring UHD Alerts (distributed via text, email, Twitter, and Facebook) for campus emergency messages. Update Your Contact InformationRemember to update your contact information to receive UHD Alerts via email and text. Also, UHD Community members are encouraged to use the University's other communication channels (UHD News , Gator Update (student news), and social media) to receive timely emergency notifications.
