Description
I have a pair of six-month-old male rats that I love dearly, unfortunately, some members of my family do not feel the same way. They are both 6 months old and from the same litter as far as I know. They have a rex fur type, I would say "bad rex" because the fur isn't very curly but rex nonetheless. One of them is black with white markings and the other is agouti with white markings. I've never been bitten but they have sharp toenails and love to climb on people. Both are happiest on a shoulder and enjoy hanging out while I walk around or read. One of them is a bit of a pooper, but not super often and he usually makes it known he's ready to go back to the cage before he resorts to defecation battle tactics.
I've tried training them, and they sort of understand commands but I think I've been poor with consistency. They have names that they will respond to occasionally, but I'm sure they could be changed without huge difficulty. They both usually respond to "rats" or "Mr. Rat" though.
They come with their bin cage, remaining food, and whatever other supplies I have on hand. I will be incredibly selective about adopters, and there will be a rehoming fee. I would prefer that they go to a home that already has rats, or has had them in the past. I think the boys would be able to integrate into a colony, but I couldn't say they would with total confidence. These are not children's pets and I will give priority to a home that can give them a quiet, semi-active lifestyle. They will not be rehomed to a household with cats or reptiles.
