The Mama Talk support group is going outside this summer!! Come join us and bring the family to our Mama Movement series and engage in some much needed movement therapy. We will dance, stretch and exercise using birth balls, hula hoops, hips and hands, all while absorbing some essential sun-filled vitamin D 🌞 This Mama Movement session will be instructed by two of our talented Doulas, Thomecia (Mimi) Busby and Tiara Calahan. Mimi will set the tone by leading us with some gentle yoga stretch exercises curated for pregnancy and postpartum. Tiara will follow with an Afro-Caribbean mindful movement based exercise that activates the mind-body connection. These mindful movement techniques can be used as grounding exercises that actually help progress pregnancy and labor by opening the hips, calming the nervous system and lowering stress and anxiety levels. She will incorporate movements such as squatting, lunging and hip rotations on the birth ball to help with spinal alignment and softening the pelvic floor. Tiara also incorporate therapeutic breathing techniques which bring oxygen to the reproductive organs, helping them function better. Bring your own yoga mat or blanket. Water and snacks will be provided. **Rainout Plan: Class will be instructed virtually. Registration is needed for this event to receive a zoom link. Mama Talk™ is a monthly informational support group for pregnant and postpartum Black families, hosted, either virtually or in-person, by the Atlanta Doula Collective, Inc. Each Mama Talk™ features a relative topic of discussion, led by a community expert. This community forum has been cultivated to be a safe space for Black families to share their birth stories, birthing fears and fertility concerns. The Mama Talk™ program also grants opportunities for participants to share common experiences, support one another and empower themselves with new information.
